This very rare pair of easy chairs, model 4346, designed by ib kofod-larsen and produced by fritz hansen in denmark during the 1950s, exemplifies the refined elegance and craftsmanship of danish modernism. The chairs feature solid teak frames, meticulously crafted with organic contours and precise joinery—hallmarks of kofod-larsen’s design philosophy. The armrests flow outward in a smooth curve, seamlessly merging into the angled legs, resulting in a structure that is both visually light and structurally robust. The frame’s sculptural form enhances both aesthetic appeal and ergonomic comfort. The seats and backrests have been recently reupholstered in high-quality kvadrat wool fabric, known for its durability and rich texture. The upholstery presents a subtle two-tone scheme: a light grey main fabric complemented by deep navy-blue seat cushions. This contrast not only adds visual interest but also emphasizes the chairs’ distinctive silhouettes. Designed in the 1950s, these chairs embody the scandinavian modernist ideals of harmonizing function and form.
ib kofod-larsen was a pivotal figure in danish design, and the 4346 model, produced by fritz hansen, is a testament to his skill in balancing architectural precision with organic fluidity. The chairs remain in excellent condition, with well-preserved teak frames showing only minor wear consistent with age. The newly upholstered cushions provide fresh comfort while maintaining the original design intent.
