A magnificent pair of cast iron architectural finials in the form of a pineapple or pinecone-a classical motif symbolizing welcome, hospitality, and prosperity. These would have originally crowned gateposts, pillars, or an elaborate fence.
The scale of these pieces is impressive, pointing to use on a significant, likely Victorian-era, estate.
They are constructed of thick cast iron with a well-defined, repeating scale pattern on the main body set atop a ribbed, classic urn-style base with a substantial, round foot. The heavy, robust construction is evident, and the hollowed base would allow them to be secured onto a post. The set displays a fantastic, authentic weathered patina, with a distressed, flaking white/light gray paint finish over the deeply rusted brown iron beneath, giving them an incredibly appealing rustic, aged character that takes decades to achieve naturally. Both pieces are in consistent, excellent antique condition for outdoor ironwork, with heavy surface rust, oxidation, paint loss, and general wear from long-term exterior exposure.
They are solid, intact, and ready to be the focal point of a garden or architectural restoration project. H 29", W 13",
