This striking pair of tole metal architectural-form ornaments is constructed in faceted, tapering obelisk silhouettes that read as stylized finials, fire-dog-like hearth ornaments, or grand decorative elements for a mantel, console, or bookcase display. Each piece is formed from sheet metal worked into crisp, angled planes, with a subtly stepped lower shoulder and a pointed, pyramidal cap, the whole lifted on four robust, cylindrical “ball” feet that create a sculptural base and emphasize the objects’ mass and presence. The surfaces present a layered, timeworn palette—areas of earlier dark finish and gray underlayers visible beneath extensive oxidation—resulting in a richly textured, archaeological character that feels consistent with mid-century Italian tolework made for dramatic interiors. The pair’s symmetry and vertical thrust make them especially effective as bookends or flanking objects, while the emphatic feet and faceted bodies give them an industrial-architectural sensibility that bridges rustic and modernist décor.
