Unique open cube with Chippendale fretwork (ogee) cutouts-reminiscent of Ming-style geometric framing.
The legs are shaped with large, decorative silhouettes, cut-out in an arched, lobed, or horseshoe-like shape (often called “horseshoe” or “cloud” form in Chinese-inspired furniture), creating negative space that lightens the visual weight and allows views through/under the table. Gold detailing continues inside contrasting with the black -a mark of quality craftsmanship.

The surface decoration is classic Chinoiserie: hand detailed gilt scene with red accents over a satin black finish. Stylized Asian landscape with pagodas, a small arched bridge, figures in boats, water, islands, bamboo trees, and ducks—more imaginative which is typical of Chinoiserie. The sides carry smaller landscape vignettes and ornamental patterns that wrap around the frame.

It’s a visually strong piece—especially as a matching pair. This combination of black satin lacquer, abundant gilt and red painting, pierced/cut-out legs, and fanciful Asian pastoral scenes is very characteristic of mid-late 20th century chinoiserie accent furniture.
