A rare early 17th century antique Italian Renaissance carved walnut cabinet, Tuscany, circa 1600.
The cabinet had been part of the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum San Francisco (now The de Young Museum), and was the property of Ms. Lee Eleanor Graham a San Francisco socialite & decorator in the 1920s. Lee Eleanor Graham was the wife of the oil magnate William Miller Graham who in 1902 had commissioned the building of "Bellosguardo" (Beautiful Lookout) an Italianate mansion in Santa Barbara California, now known as the Bellosguardo Foundation. This cabinet had been part of the furnishings of this very grand mansion in 1902.
The cabinet is fitted with two drawers; each with raised panels and retain the original circular polished bronze pulls. The cabinet of serpentine form and having two curved fielded panel doors, the sides of the cabinet of corresponding curved form with raised panels. The credenza is raised on bracket feet, the interior of the doors having hand-forged locks and hinges, the secondary woods are all white pine, enclosed is a single shelf.
The credenza is in very good condition it has just been lovingly waxed in Bloomsbury's professional workshops and has a warm mellow honey colored patina. This wonderful Italian Renaissance period cabinet is around 400 years old and is ready to grace your home.
