A striking French mid-century ceramic vase by Accolay, dating to the 1950s–1960s. This sculptural form features a flared neck over a rounded body, finished in a dynamic turquoise and black volcanic glaze with organic, almost mineral-like movement.
This example embodies the expressive glaze work and confident proportions that define the atelier’s production during its most sought-after period.
About Accolay:
The Accolay pottery workshop was founded in Burgundy, France, in 1945 by André Boutaud, Louis Dangon, Slavik Paley, and Raudé, following their training under ceramist Alexandre Kostanda. Known for bold experimentation, richly textured glazes, and modernist silhouettes, Accolay pieces were widely appreciated for their strong decorative presence and their role in the renewal of French studio pottery after World War II. In its early years, Accolay also produced ceramic jewelry and accessories that were notably used by Christian Dior for his “New Look” collections, before gaining international recognition for its distinctive mid-century studio pottery.
