The original owner of this singular Eastlake octagonal gaming table was the current owner's great grandfather, born in 1854, which … Read more The original owner of this singular Eastlake octagonal gaming table was the current owner's great grandfather, born in 1854, which dates the table to the last quarter of the 19th century, probably the 1880s. The tabletop, with a 1-in beveled edge, is burled wood, probably walnut. A custom-made octagonal glass top was obtained at a later date. The lower table features abundant geometric shapes and carvings characteristic of the Eastlake style; the last image shows a pair of butterflies carved into the upper inside of one of the legs, which can only be viewed from beneath the table.
Dimensions: 34.5 in diameter (point to point) x 28 in high without 1/4 inch glass top. Each side of the octagon measures 13.25 in.
Condition: The table is in quite excellent condition for its age, except for the crack running the length of the table top, which has been repaired from underneath. Some wear is visible along the outer edges of the four legs and at the base.
