A striking miniature Laughing Buddha (Budai), exquisitely hand-carved from carnelian (red chalcedony) and finished to a smooth, lustrous polish. The stone presents a rich oxblood-red tone with naturally darker shading in the recesses, creating beautiful depth and contrast that highlights every carved detail.
Budai is portrayed with an expressive, joyful face, holding a fan and carrying a sack over his shoulder—traditional symbols of good fortune, prosperity, and abundance. The sculptor achieved remarkable definition for such a compact scale, from the flowing robe folds to the crisp facial features, giving the piece an unmistakable presence despite its small size.
Perfect as a refined collector’s object, cabinet piece, or a meaningful accent for an interior with Asian art, wabi-sabi, or curated eclectic styling.
