Full Description
This late 19th century American gentleman’s dressing cabinet dates to approximately 1890–1905 and reflects transitional Victorian to early American Classical design.
Constructed of solid wood with plank back and panel sides, the cabinet features dowel-joined drawer construction and retains its original deep brown finish with subtle warm undertones and natural age patina. The surface shows honest oxidation and finish variation consistent with over a century of use, enhancing rather than detracting from its authenticity.
The façade is composed of two large recessed paneled doors above two small lower drawers and a plinth base. Original brass pulls and knobs remain present and period appropriate.
Interior configuration includes:
• One shallow upper accessory drawer with divided compartments
• Large open storage cavity
• Fixed structural mid-rail
• One full lower shelf
• Two lower exterior drawers
The interior retains original plank construction. The divided accessory drawer adds desirable functional character for storage of small personal items.
Doors swing fully and properly, wrapping around the sides as designed. Hinges are firm and secure. A discreet magnetic catch has been added to ensure consistent closure.
This piece presents strong vertical lines and practical storage while maintaining restrained ornamentation, making it adaptable to traditional, classical, or transitional interiors.
