The Scene: Katharine Cornell as Juliet and Dame Edith Evans as The Nurse.
The Significance: This production is a holy grail for theater historians. It marked the Broadway debut of Orson Welles (Tybalt) and featured an incredible "powerhouse" cast of future icons, including Tyrone Power, Ralph Richardson, and Maurice Evans. The reverse of the photo features detailed vintage handwritten notes identifying this historic cast and the production dates.
The Artist: Alfredo Valente (1899–1973) was a master of dramatic lighting whose work is held in permanent collections at the MoMA and the Smithsonian. This print features the original "Valente-Pavelle" studio stamp on the reverse.
