This is an authentic antique Victorian-era cast iron fireplace insert set. This two-piece assembly includes the ornate arched "summer cover" (the decorative grate) and its heavy matching outer surround. In the 19th centuries, these decorative covers were used during the warmer months to hide the soot-filled interior of a coal fireplace.
