Elegant Royal Worcester bone china figure of a girl holding a bowl, model no. 1774, designed by James Hadley and issued in 1954. The composition, first introduced in the late nineteenth century, remained one of Worcester’s most consistently demanded sculptural designs and was reissued across several decades.
This example is distinguished by its extensive dead-matte gilding, characteristic of mid-century production and aimed at the post-war export market. The refined modelling preserves the charm of Hadley’s original conception while presenting a distinctly 1950s decorative finish.
Marks to the underside: black printed Royal Worcester factory backstamp introduced in 1951. Above “Made in England” appears the letter W flanked by two dots to the left and two to the right (four dots in total), the Worcester date code for 1954. Impressed model number 1774.
An appealing addition for collectors of Royal Worcester and mid-century English porcelain.
