The openwork backrests with carved shell motifs and the calm wood color create a formally cohesive and well-proportioned effect. Historical context: Chairs of this type were frequently produced around the turn of the century as part of larger dining room sets, often inspired by 18th-century French Rococo. The use of curved forms, open backs, and carved decorative motifs reflected the bourgeois desire for decorative elegance and historicist interior design. Cane seats were a common solution, as they are durable, repairable, and comfortable for everyday use. Features – Openwork, double-curved backrest with central shell ornament – Woven seat in a diagonal weave with surrounding frame. Design: Stylistically, the chairs are inspired by the Rococo style, recognizable by the flowing lines of the back frames, the curved front legs, and the ornamentally accentuated crowning. The construction remains clearly legible: a seat frame with rails and struts, and a deliberately open back structure that lends lightness to the ensemble. Function: Formerly used as dining room or parlor chairs in formally furnished living spaces. Today, the set is suitable as a complete seating arrangement for a larger dining table, but can also be divided into smaller groups or individual pieces for living and working areas. Dimensions in cm: Height 99 (overall) / 46 (seat height) × Width 45 × Depth 41. Material and condition: Oak with visible grain and woven seat made of natural material. Very well preserved with age-related wear, stable and sturdy; surfaces inspected and treated appropriately for the material. See less
