Artist Biography
Michele Stapley (20th century) was active/lived in Arizona. She is known for Genre, figure.
Genre and figure painter Michele Stapley came from a childhood home in Sutamit, New Jersey, filled with beautiful art books, classical music, and lively conversation. These formative experiences are evident in her paintings which are primarily concerned with moments of human drama set in locations she herself treasures - museums, concert halls, restaurants, churches -- places of communal gatherings, unique sights, and wonderful architectural forms.Michele is a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, and her works are in collections from, coast to coast and in Canada, Japan, Europe and Australia.She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, and later studied for three years with the well-known portrait painter and illustrator, Paul C. Burns. She also studied figure painting at the graduate level at Arizona State University, and continued her studies at the Scottsdale Artists School, The Fechin Institute in Taos, and the Verrocchio Art Center in Siena, Italy.Locally, Michele has exhibited widely with the Arizona Artists Guild, the Arizona State Fair, the Glendale Art Show and the Scottsdale Artists School 'Best and Brightest". In addition, she has exhibited nationally including with the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and the American Artists Professional League
ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
My paintings are about light, form and human drama Whether at a sunlit cafe or a darkened theater, I delight in the quality of light, the expressiveness of the human figure and the elegant geometry of architectural shapes.Known for her painterly vignettes of human experience, she had a solo exhibition "On the Town" at Joyce Robins Gallery in Santa Fe in August, 1999.
