Signed lower right, 'Paul England' (American, 1918-1988) and painted circa 1965. Old label, verso, bearing title, 'Gutenburg'.
Framed in a period white-painted, wood-strip frame.
Framed dimensions: 37.5 x 1.75 x 49.25 inches.
Born in Oklahoma, Paul England received his Bachelors at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (1940) before studying at New York's Art Students League (1943-1946). He subsequently moved to Paris where he studied at Zadkine Studio, (1948-49) before earning his Masters at the University of Tulsa (1959). England was appointed Professor of Art at Hofstra University in 1959, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. The artist's work is held in private and public collections including the permanent collections of the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Philbrook Museum of Art.
