A white enamelled Dunville's Whisky tray with blue lettering and black edge.In good condition although with some wear and tear on the front, in need of a clean. Maker's name on reverse J.A.Campbell 84 Royal Avenue, Belfast and trademark GBB -please see photographs. Diameter of tray 12 inches .
'a very unique and rare antique enamel tray 1910-1916'. dunville's very successful belfast distillery was established in 1869, dunville & co attempted in 1910-11 to establish their company in scotland and advertised dunville's 'scotch' whisky but they experienced difficulty in selling this brand as their customers new they did not have distillery in scotland so to try and boost sales they bought over a scottish company t & a mclelland ltd (bladnoch distillery). the enamel circular trays is one of the first adverts for the 'scotch' whisky and as the company in scotland got some bad luck with the outbreak of ww1 so they disbanded mclelland ltd in 1916 and went back to belfast. this rare enamel tray is one of the first dunville advert promotions! it has some wear and tear on the enamel with the retailers OJE & co monogram ( richard patterson & co belfast) clearly printed on the reverse, it is 12" in diameter (30.5cm).
