Leonard Lester (1870-1952) was born in Cumberland England, studying art in Europe before relocating to North America. A noted plein air painter, Lester lived an interesting life studying in New York and Chicago, teaching and painting in Cuba before finally settling in California, where he excelled in atmospheric paintings.
