Beautiful atmospheric 1905 framed oil on linen “First Light Near Santa Barbara” by plein air artist Leonard Lester.
Painted from the Santa Ynez Mountains, looking down on Santa Barbara and out to the Pacific Ocean, this atmospheric painting features the most beautiful vibrant shade of sky over a bronze copper field of grass, dotted with majestic oaks. Beautiful coloration.
Framed in an elegant double tiered gold leafed over wood frame. Measuring 38.25” x 24” x 1.75”
Leonard Lester (1870-1952) was born in Cumberland England, studying art in Europe before relocating to North America. A noted plein air painter, Lester lived an interesting life studying in New York and Chicago, teaching and painting in Cuba before finally settling in California, where he excelled in atmospheric paintings.
