Just gorgeous large plein air pastoral landscape of Mt Tamalpais by Alexis Matthew Podchernikoff (1886-1933)
In soothing neutral tones of tans, taupes, greens, browns, antique white and dotted with lupine purple. Cows center the painting, surrounded by a mountain landscape, trees, fog, and fields of Sky Lupine.
The fabulous gold-leafed Art Deco frame features a subtle, neutral palette. The overall result is a rich, nuanced painting.
Measuring 39.5” x 29.25” x 2.25” Signed A.M. Podchernikoff with cipher in the lower left.
Alexis Podchernikoff was born in Russia and excelled as an artist there, with many of his paintings purchased by the Russian Royal Art Commission of Moscow before emigrating to the U.S., settling in San Francisco. From 1905 to his death in 1933, he painted beautiful, evocative California landscapes. This is one of his loveliest.
