Created in China during the Qing dynasty, this compound cabinet features a smaller storage chest stacked on top of a regular sized cabinet. Compound cabinets were used for storage. The top would contain out of season clothing while the main cabinet would be used as a wardrobe for everyday use including bedding and clothes for the season. The cabinet showcases a red lacquer perfectly complimented by the gilded Chinoiserie décor that adorns its doors. These doors open thanks to traditional brass medallions, to reveal inner shelves and hidden drawers, while the lower section presents additional drawers. The apron, carved with scrolling foliage, provides a perfect conclusion to the ensemble. Raised on four straight legs, this Chinese Qing dynasty period 19th century red lacquered cabinet will bring a touch of undeniable elegance to any living room or bedroom. See less
