Created with the traditional technique of the lost-wax (à la cire Perdue) which allows for great precision and finesse in the details, this bronze circular planter is adorned with petite beads and larger spheres on the lid, only interrupted by two striking lion heads on two sides. It is the base however that attracts the most attention with its two bare-chested nymphs, probably companions of Ceres (Demeter in Greek), goddess of agriculture and grain crops. The nymphs are indeed sitting back to back, containing as much as they can an abundant harvest of wheat. With its Greco-Roman subject and dark patina, this bronze Allegory of the Summer planter will be an excellent addition to any garden! See less
