Pair of modern art works by artist and First Lady of Georgia Betty Foy Sanders (1927-2022). Metallic and regular acrylic paint , metal leaf in the same metallic tones as the paint (copper, gold and silver), all on a synthetic paper made of very large fibers. Both signed lower right, 15 x 22 inches each.
Betty Foy Sanders was born in Statesboro and earned a Fine Art degree from the University of Georgia in Athens where she studied with Lamar Dodd. She and her husband Carl lived in Augusta until he was elected governor in 1962 and they moved into the Governor's mansion in Atlanta. Known as an advocate for the arts, she received many honors over the years including having Georgia Southern University's school of the arts named after her.
Though she studied with Dodd in college, the influence of his later work can be seen in these works.
