Beautiful commemorative tin plate from The Royal Collection featuring a majestic golden lion atop a royal crown, flanked by intricate red scrollwork and the floral emblems of the United Kingdom (roses, thistles, and shamrocks). The deep navy border is emblazoned with the bold gold lettering of the Order of the Garter: 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' (translated as "Evil be unto him who evil thinks").
This piece is a faithful reproduction of a historic service originally made circa 1820 for William IV (then the Duke of Clarence). In 1893, the original service was presented as a wedding gift to the Duke and Duchess of York, who later became King George V and Queen Mary.
These plates are perfect for a traditional gallery wall, displayed on a wooden hutch, or used as a sophisticated catch-all on an entryway console.
