Antique Chinese Export Coromandel Lacquer and Gilt Six Fold Screen.
Exceptional and rare six panel intaglio lacquer carving from the 19th century. It depicts courtly figures in a continuous pavilion scene. The reverse is decorated with tree and flower motifs. These wonderful screens may boast up to 30 layers of lacquer, sometimes all in black, sometimes red and sometimes gold. This screen has all the colors combined. The borders show Chinese objet d’art and spray of flowers. This is a large piece of beautiful artwork.
Condition is good with some slight wear to the lacquer. See photos
