This high quality ceramic art jug vase is attributed to the renown German ceramic artist Helma Klett (1908-1996).
A sculptural vessel in impressive hues of beige and brown, featuring an abstract modernist looped line decor, a design element the ceramist used during the 1950s.
The piece is signed, but not with her workshop logo that she most frequently uses. It comes from an ambitious private ceramic art collection including many pieces from Helma Klett.
Helma Klett was trained by the renown ceramist Siegfried Graham in Römhild during the 1930s. The ceramist founded her artistic pottery workshop in the village of Fredelsloh, Northern Germany in 1940.
She followed the modernist principles of the Bauhaus as well as traditional design in her work and this duality makes it very interesting. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
