This elegant early 19th century–style corner armchair features a sculpted serpentine crest rail with carved foliate detailing, pierced splat supports, turned arm posts, and square tapered legs joined by cross stretchers. The chair retains its vintage upholstery with brass nailhead trim. Most likely dates from 1890-1905.

Christie’s documentation (included in listing photos) confirms provenance to Clark Gable’s estate. I purchased the item at the auction in New York City in 2006.

What makes this chair particularly compelling is its honest wear — the finish abrasion, edge wear, and patina reflect authentic use during Gable’s ownership. This is not a pristine decorator piece; it is a lived-in Hollywood artifact with character consistent with estate use.
