The composition is both graphic and lyrical — a long, narrow vessel rides rhythmic cressted waters while pennants trail in the wind above. The dragon-form prow adds movement and vitality, while the architectural structure at center creates balance and visual weight. The restrained cobalt palette, paired with the repeating Greek key border, gives the piece a crisp classical presence. The painting is confident and graphic, with strong saturation in the cobalt and clean glaze clarity. The side walls feature additional stylized bat and geometric motifs, adding visual interest from every angle.

The underside bears a six-character Chenghua mark (大明成化年製), translating to “Made during the Chenghua period of the Great Ming Dynasty.” This mark is commonly found on later porcelain pieces created in homage to the Ming dynasty. Based on glaze tone, foot rim wear, and stylistic execution, this example likely dates to the late Qing to early Republic period (circa 1890–1930).

The plate’s gently rising rim allows it to function equally well as a decorative plate or as a shallow serving bowl.

Condition is very good for age. No chips or cracks observed. Minor surface wear and light firing specks consistent with age and production methods. The glaze has a soft celadon undertone typical of earlier 20th century wares.
