Signed Jose Riva Mid-Century Modern Israeli Judaica Ceramic Sculpture
An exquisite and highly collectible mid-century modern Israeli Judaica sculpture by the renowned artist José Riva. This hand-formed ceramic figure captures the poignant and sacred moment of a woman lighting the Shabbat candles, her hands traditionally covering her eyes in prayer.
The piece features a striking contrast between the high-gloss navy blue glaze of the body and the matte cream-glaze of the headscarf. It is mounted on a heavy, polished white marble base and includes twin original brass candlesticks with ceramic "flame" inserts. This stylized, "flat-back" profile is a hallmark of Riva’s modernist approach to traditional Jewish themes. The artist's signature, "Jose Riva," is hand-painted and clearly visible on the marble base.
