The … Read more A refined pair of framed Neoclassical prints after Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italy, 1720-1778), with Grand Tour and Greco-Roman influences. The first print, "Vaas met Maskers op Voetstuk" (Vase with masks on a pedestal), features a classical vase with mascarons and an elaborate figural base supported by winged lions. The second print, "Candelabro Ornato con Diversi Arabeschi" (Candelabrum Base Ornamented with Various Arabesques) presents an ornate Candelabrum pedestal enriched with dense detailing, decorative flourishing arabesques located in the courtyard of the Palazzo Lante in St. Eustachian, Rome. The prints are done in a monochromatic charcoal palette on warm ivory-colored paper. Both sheets include Italian inscriptions including an Piranesi attribution text, and are handsomely presented in elegant stepped black frames with wide linen mats. The etchings are in very good, well preserved condition as seen in photos with minor fading and toning as seen in photos. Sold as a pair. From an estate in San Francisco, California.

Condition: Good, wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully mounted in solid frames. Some light fading from age. Frames have some minor wear with chips and scuffs from handling as seen in photos. Back linings are torn in a few areas but have stayed mostly intact. See less
