A stunning one-of-a-kind vase by Denver ceramic artist Peter Karner, this tall, hand-thrown and altered ceramic form blends strong shape with lively surface design. The slightly irregular rim and subtly faceted sides highlight its handmade character, giving it an organic yet modern feel.
The layered circular patterns are applied free-hand using wax-resist and brushwork, creating rich depth in tones of teal, ochre, and earthy brown. High-fired to 2300°F in a gas kiln, the glaze captures carbon in the reduction atmosphere—a “carbon trap” effect that produces natural variations and smoky movement across the surface.
Stamped "K" on the underside.
