Beautiful rare vintage mid century Shona stone sculpture, attributed to renowned artist Sailas Makumba (born 1955), an artist known for creating elegant, smooth, abstract, or figurative designs. (The signature at the base clearly reads 'SAILAS M...' but the remainder of the second name is indistinct.
Like other Shona artists, Sailas' pieces often depict human figures, family dynamics (e.g., mothers and children), and abstract spiritual forms. This particular figure has its head attached with a flexible stem so that it can be moved to various positions.
The sculpture is in good condition with only minor marks in the stone - please see photos.
