The rectangular form opens to reveal its original fitted interior, including removable lidded compartment and metal ash receptacle. The lid and interior panel are adorned with traditional Korean symbols rendered in abalone shell — a scholar’s hat and pipe, floral branch in vase, and stylized characters conveying longevity and good fortune. The inlay shimmers beautifully against the saturated lacquer ground, shifting from soft pearl to flashes of green and rose under changing light.

The interior metal insert bears a double-happiness motif, reinforcing the box’s auspicious symbolism.
