Christoph Weigel the Elder was born on November 9, 1654, in Redwitz (Marktredwitz, Bavaria) and died on February 5, 1725, in Nuremberg. He was a German engraver, art dealer, and publisher.

In 1715-16, he participated in the creation of several maps for Johann Homann's Grosser Atlas über die ganze Welt ("Great Atlas of the World"). This piece has an attribution mark,
