Exceptional, rare vase from the famous 'Camouflage' series, attributed to Daniel Folkmann Andersen (1885–1959) for Michael Andersen & Sons, Bornholm, Denmark.
The vase captivates with its fascinating surface design: a fine network of relief-like applied slipware decor ('cloisons') forms an organic, cloud-like pattern. This recalls both the camouflage motifs of World War I and the design language of Jugendstil artist Thorvald Bindesbøll, whose influence is clearly perceptible here. The individual fields are glazed in gold and green tones, applied with lively, radiating brushstrokes. Hand-turned from stoneware/terracotta, created in Denmark around 1916–1920.
Floor marking: '153' (without visible MA&S logo). This early, three-digit marking instead of the usual four-digit numbers suggests it could be a rare prototype or pre-series piece. Condition: Very good – minimal age-related signs of wear, no visible cracks or restorations.
An outstanding collector's object from the early modern period that uniquely embodies the connection between Nordic craftsmanship and avant-garde design. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
