However, the chairs in … Read more Backrest: Authentic Queen Anne chairs usually have a solid, vase- or violin-shaped (fiddle-back) central vertical rail. However, the chairs in the photo have an openwork (spindle) backrest, which is characteristic of the later, more exuberant Chippendale period.

Legs and feet: Both Queen Anne and Chippendale styles use the curved cabriole leg. An important difference is that Queen Anne chairs often have simpler “pad feet” (disc or clog feet), while Chippendale chairs often have the more elaborate “claw-and-ball feet”. The chairs in the image have the simpler legs that are more reminiscent of the Queen Anne style, but the backrest points towards Chippendale. We believe that the chairs originate from the transitional phase between the Queen Anne period and the Chippendale period.

The seats deserve to be cleaned or reupholstered with a modern fabric in antique style, and you will have a pair of beautiful beech wood - mahogany patinated - pieces that will increase in value and fit into a rustic country style interior. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
