Large vase made of hand-blown soda glass, in-mass colored, with a multicolored gradient transition between red and orange, designed by the renowned Polish glass artist Zbigniew Horbowy for the "Sudety" Glassworks in Szczytna. This vase, measuring 51 cm in height and 13 cm in diameter, exemplifies advanced artistic glass technology from the 1970s and embodies the essence of Polish design from that era.
The object was presented in Milan from 6–13 April 2025 during Milan Design Week at the exhibition “Romantic Brutalism. A Journey into Polish Craft and Design”, organized by the Visteria Foundation and curated by Federica Sala.
Designer: Zbigniew Horbowy (1935–2019) – a respected Polish glass artist who revolutionized Polish utilitarian glass, introducing innovative forms and distinctive coloring techniques.
Manufacturer: "Sudety" Glassworks, Szczytna, Poland
Date: 1970s
Material: In-mass colored soda glass – layered to achieve durable, vibrant colors that are resistant to fading.
Production Technique: Hand-blown glass, requiring the precise work of master glassmakers. Each piece is unique due to the forming and in-mass coloring process, which involves adding pigments directly into the hot glass mass, creating a deep color effect and smooth tonal transitions.
Color: Characteristic gradient, transitioning from deep red at the base, through warm shades of orange, to a subtle red tone at the top. The layered effect and in-mass coloring give the colors intensity and dimensionality.
Shape: A slender, cylindrical form that widens at the base, providing stability and an elegant appearance.
