This antique Japanese kimono hanger (ikō) is an elegant, foldable textile display with a slim silhouette. The uprights rise into gently upturned ends, giving the piece a calm, refined tension. The wood is finished in a warm reddish-brown lacquer with delicate gilt decoration: a trailing floral-and-berry motif runs along the top rail and uprights, while the lower base rail features a stylised landscape with cranes in gold and darker pigment.
Dimensions: height 124 cm, width 73.5 cm (x 2), depth 3 cm.
Originally designed to air and present kimono, it also works beautifully today for textiles, scarves or quilts—or simply as a sculptural statement in a minimalist interior. The open construction keeps it visually light and creates a subtle interplay of line, negative space and material. Thanks to the hinged folding design, it is easy to position and compact to store.
Condition: good, honest condition with age-appropriate wear and some loss to the lacquer and gilt decoration; small marks and scratches in places (see photos). Sturdy and functional.
