This striking antique equestrian sculpture, dating to circa 1930, captures the timeless elegance and athletic poise of a mounted jockey in remarkable detail. The composition is beautifully balanced, depicting a poised racehorse standing alert with refined musculature and a graceful stance. The jockey, dressed in classic riding attire, wears a vivid red jacket, cream breeches, and tall black boots, with a traditional riding cap completing the look. The reins are finely rendered, and the horse’s bridle, ears, and facial structure are executed with impressive realism. The piece has anatomical accuracy, from the tension in the horse’s legs to the relaxed yet controlled posture of the rider, giving the piece a lifelike quality and sense of restrained motion.
Measuring 10.5 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 3.75 inches deep, and weighing just under 5 pounds, the piece has a substantial presence while remaining perfectly scaled for display on a desk, mantel, or bookshelf. This piece is made of a thick cast metal with a colored overcoat to create a faux bronze look. Good antique condition with light signs of wear. The underside bears the stamp “KO,” identifying the maker as Kronheim & Oldenbusch, a respected Brooklyn, NY firm active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in the 19th century, Kronheim & Oldenbusch became known for producing high-quality decorative metal objects, including bronzes, figural sculptures, and Art Deco–era pieces. The company gained recognition for its finely cast figures and elegant animal sculptures, often reflecting sporting, classical, and equestrian themes. Their work is appreciated today for its craftsmanship, durability, and collectible appeal.
This handsome equestrian sculpture embodies the sporting tradition and refined decorative taste of the interwar period. Ideal for a gentleman’s study, an English country interior, or an equestrian-themed collection, it offers both historical character and enduring decorative appeal.
