This sculptural zoomorphic vase by Bruno Dose was produced at Poterie du Breuil in Sarlat during the 1960s. Its asymmetric silhouette, pierced handles, and elongated spout give the piece a dynamic, almost animated presence. The creamy white ground is enriched with iron-oxide style speckling, while the vivid red glazed interior creates a strong visual contrast. Hand-painted motifs of flowers and a bird add a decorative layer typical of provincial French studio pottery of the period.
Rather than relying on decoration alone, the strength of this piece lies in its form. From across a room, the sculptural profile reads clearly and confidently, making it an impactful accent on a console, shelf, or pedestal.
About Bruno Dose
Bruno Dose worked at Poterie du Breuil in Sarlat, a workshop active in the mid-20th century and associated with regional French studio ceramics. His work reflects the broader 1960s movement toward expressive, handcrafted decorative pottery in France, where sculptural silhouettes and bold glaze contrasts were favored over strict traditional forms. Dose’s pieces are representative of authentic French mid-century studio production and are appreciated for their originality of form and decorative presence.
