This is an original upholstered walnut chest by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller. It is the design piece model 4140 that is considered the transition from Art Deco to American modern design. It was part of Gilbert’s Paldao Group. The chest is comprised of walnut veneers over wood with an upholstered leather front. Gilbert Rohde is considered the designer that saved Herman Miller and took the company into the age of mid-century modern. His famous quote is, “You are not just making furniture anymore. You are making a way of living- a lifestyle.” These are words that resonate with us today! The chest is in original condition with only touch up done to minor scuffs. See less
