Original 1973 oil on canvas painting titled “Fishing at the Nevele” by listed artist Max Jacob Schacknow. This charming landscape captures a peaceful riverside scene featuring a fisherman seated along the grassy bank near a gently cascading spillway. A wooden bridge stretches across the water, framed by lush green trees and rolling hills in the distance.
The composition beautifully balances movement and stillness — the textured brushstrokes of the flowing water contrast with the calm posture of the fisherman in his bright yellow shirt. The palette is rich with vibrant greens, soft blues, and warm earth tones, showcasing Schacknow’s expressive yet controlled technique.
Signed and dated “Maxie 1973” in the lower right corner. The reverse of the painting is inscribed with the artist’s name, date, and title. Presented in its original vintage frame featuring a carved gilt inner molding with a contrasting black and gold outer frame, adding depth and classic character to the piece.
A wonderful example of 1970s American landscape painting, ready to display.

Max Schacknow Obituary
Max Jacob Schacknow, 90, of Plantation, FL, passed away on March 23, 2013. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Maxie dropped out of high school to work to help support his family. Along with his brothers Harry and Julie, he joined the US Military during WW II. He served his country in the Navy for three years, retiring with the rank of Seaman 1st Class in December, 1945 after a tour as radioman to the Admiral aboard the USS Randolph. Shortly after discharge, he met Evelyn Ruditsky at a dance, admired her legs, and married her later that year on December 14, 1946. Their love affair has continued for more than 66 years. Maxie was a self-made businessman, creating a textile-brokerage firm in lower Manhattan. For over 30 years he worked with his brother Harry until he retired to south Florida. Maxie's lifelong dream was to build an art museum, a goal he accomplished with the founding of the "Schacknow Museum of Fine Arts," a Florida charitable organization, in Plantation, FL, in 2000. He has personally created over 2000 original paintings and drawings. The Museum sponsors the works of many artists, sculptors and photographers. Maxie's philanthropy was boundless; he made contributions to the community and local organizations, with his time, his soul and his money. Max and Evelyn raised two sons. Paul N. Schacknow, MD, PhD, their first born, is an ophthalmologist who lives in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Southport, ME, with his wife Sharma J. Schacknow, JD, MBA. Max and Evelyn have a grandson, Jeffrey M. Schacknow, BA. Their second born son, Steven R. Schacknow, a businessman, passed away prematurely at age 43. Max Schacknow was a man of strong opinions with a very big heart. He will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2103, at 10:30 AM at the Star of David Memorial Gardens, Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 7801 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068 - 954-722-9000.
