A striking 1987 hand‑painted wedding vase from Hozoni Pottery, decorated by Native American studio artists and signed along the base. This sculptural double‑spout form features a dramatic black ground with finely etched and painted detailing in soft white and blush tones. The imagery blends traditional Southwestern landscape elements with a rare cosmic night‑sky motif, including a stylized celestial craft hovering above a mountain range — an imaginative theme occasionally seen in late‑1980s Hozoni work and highly sought after by collectors.
Wedding vases symbolize unity and partnership in many Pueblo and Navajo traditions, and this example stands out for its unusual celestial narrative, crisp etching, and excellent preservation. A beautiful addition to Southwestern, Native American‑inspired, or eclectic art collections.
The vase is signed with the studio‑artist inscription “Lois Jarvis” (also appearing as “Lois Lewis” on other Hozoni pieces), along with additional Hozoni production marks including “NMP Roy” and “NMPG 87.” These marks are characteristic of Hozoni’s collaborative studio practice, where Native American artists decorated and etched each piece by hand. The signatures represent both the individual decorator and the studio’s internal coding system rather than a single independent potter. The original Hozoni label remains intact on the base.
Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Minor expected surface wear consistent with age. Signature and studio label present on the base.
Hozoni Pottery studio, 1987. Hand‑painted and etched by Native American artists working within the Hozoni collective.
