Pair of 19th Century Chinese Export "Canton" Blue & White Porcelain Plates, 8.5"
Add a touch of timeless global history to your collection with this matched pair of authentic Chinese Export porcelain plates in the iconic "Canton" pattern. Hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue, the central scene depicts a classic scholar’s landscape featuring a pagoda, a bridge, and a river landscape, framed by the traditional "rain and cloud" scalloped border. Produced in the early to mid-1800s for the Western market, these plates represent the height of the China Trade era and are perfect for wall displays or as cabinet specimens in a traditional or grandmillennial interior.
Condition: Good Antique Condition.
These plates exhibit the authentic characteristics of 19th-century hand-painted export porcelain. Both pieces feature original production markers, including kiln ash specks (small dark dots) and glaze pitting (tiny pinholes) from the firing process. Each plate has a single, stable hairline crack running from the rim toward the center, along with minor "fritting" (tiny glaze flakes) consistent with over 150 years of age and use. These structural imperfections are common for the era and do not detract from the vibrant cobalt blue landscape or the overall display quality.
A wonderful opportunity to own a piece of 19th-century history. These plates offer the soulful, hand-rendered charm that only true antique export porcelain can provide.
