A staple of Mid-Century design, this black ceramic panther is dual purpose, acting as both a vase or small planter and a TV lamp. The classic slinking pose stretches this lamp to a sizable 21 inches long, with a 6 inch long and 2 inch wide opening in the back to the hollow body. On the back, a spot is molded in for a light socket, currently original and working, marked behind the socket on the body of the big cat © 1953 Royal China & Novelty Co. Inc. Worn green fabric was glued to the feet by a previous owner to protect surfaces.
TV lamps were designed to provide ambient backlighting thought to reduce eye strain from dark room viewing. Lamp is shown in photos with an LED 40w equivalent bulb, not included. Given the intended purpose and original nature of the cord and socket, we recommend lower wattage options.
