Just imagine this gorgeous Mediterranean style custom pergola built in 1965 in your own outdoor space. It was built and designed for a Southern California Ranch Estate to serve as a rest stop at the half way marker along a 1/2 mile long walking trail on the property. The pergola is constructed with solid wrought iron and made to life several lifetimes. It is constructed without screws and is welded together as a permanent long lasting solution. This pergola bench couldn't be engineered to be more sturdy and substantial in its construction than this.
There are two flanking wood benches that seat 2 each located at the long ends of the rectangular layout. The wood plank benches on each of two adjoining sides are surrounded by a scrolling wrap-around wrought iron fence railing that is 42" high enabling clear unobstructed views of the horizon when seated at the benches. The third side has wrought iron scrolling fencing that extends from the bottom rail to the top roof line rails.
We were told that the original location on the trail was under a canopy of branches from several mature California Oak trees, The shade from the mighty tree branches precluded the need to have a ceiling or roof covering. So while this unit has no covered ceiling, the new owner could easily add a few cross cables to support a draped tarp canopy, or blooming vines, if desired. This charming one-of-a-kind pergola arrives from our doors to yours already assembled and welded in two pieces. Each segment of the pair represents 1/2 of the unit. When the two halves are stacked bi-directionally or crisscross position like a yin-yang symbol, they can easily fit in the back of a pick-up truck. The strength of its manufacture does not equate to its weight or heaviness.. It took only 2 average sized men to load and offload the unit onto the pick-up truck which moved it.
Please note: re-assembly of the 4 wrought iron rods that join the two halves is the buyers responsibility and is required. However, the two halves could ostensibly live separated, if so chosen.
The unit can be delivered locally in Southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego, for $500. Delivery to the East Coast and elsewhere in the contiguous U.S. is available; cost based on location.

Eventually, the new owner will need to reconnect the two halves and have them rejoined at the overhead midway point .... see diagram of cut on photo 2. The wrought iron has some areas of growing patina that includes some light surface rust but does not affect the integrity of the structure or materials in any way. The two wood benches are solid but distressed due to exposure to the outdoor elements for 60 years. less
