A large, signed 1985 studio pottery vase by American ceramic artists Gus & Leola Gikas, known for their collaborative nature-relief vessels produced in Florida during the late 20th century. This hand-thrown stoneware form features a finely sculpted parrot perched among flowering branches in raised relief, finished in the couple’s characteristic speckled matte glaze with soft celadon green and warm ochre accents over an ivory ground.
Gus Gikas threw each vessel on the wheel while Leola Gikas carved and applied the botanical and bird motifs, making every example unique. Larger, highly detailed bird vases such as this are especially sought after by collectors of American studio ceramics and organic modern décor.
