Offered is a vintage mid 20th Century 1960s large urn or planter made in Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico, a province renowned … Read more Offered is a vintage mid 20th Century 1960s large urn or planter made in Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico, a province renowned for its earth-tone clay and much of the Mexican pottery and ceramic art created since the 1950s. The burnished glaze, subtle sheen and colors are indicative of earlier Tonalá pottery - later pieces are known for brighter colors and more glossy glaze.

This piece is larger than most Tonalá ceramics and measures approximately 14" diameter, and 16" tall. It's hand painted with a deep camel undercoat and is embellished with graphic flowers and vertical design patterns in cinnamon, terracotta, coffee, off white, dove gray, and charcoal. The ceramic base is a soft putty color and definitely feels like a clay mix. There are also 2 upward facing handles for easy handling and moving, but functional if indeed you want to use it for carrying water - not recommended. See less
