The façade features beautifully paneled … Read more 19th-century French oak sideboard buffet showcasing a deep, dark patina developed over generations of use. The façade features beautifully paneled doors and drawers with contrasting grain patterns, enhanced by carved floral and leaf & vine motifs that lend a romantic French provincial character. Rounded canted sides are outlined with carved detail, and a carved scalloped skirt rests on carved front feet, adding movement and refinement to the form.
The top displays old repairs along with age-related separations, nicks, gouges, scratches, and stains consistent with a piece of this age. Three upper drawers are fitted with large brass handles; interior drawer bottoms show typical age-related separation of planks. The lower cabinet interior and back panels also reveal old cracks and plank separation, expected in antique oak furniture.
The left cabinet door is secured with a lower metal latch, while the right door still functions with its original lock and key, though operation is stiff. Long traditional French metal hinges remain in place and contribute to the authenticity of the piece.
This sideboard has been professionally restored for structural integrity and is strong, stable, and ready for use. The visible wear throughout reflects its long history and adds to its unmistakable French provincial charm.
