About the artist: "Sohocki is known for his classic, graceful modern forms in bronze, marble, stainless steel and hardwood. Sohocki's work evokes such images as contemplation, desert canyons, dance, and relationships between the ancient and contemporary. His work is from his subconscious, capturing the essence of things. Sohocki began carving while working and living with the Eskimos and Athabascan Indians of Alaska more than 45 years ago and has since been a professional sculptor.
'The beauty of abstract art is it can mean something different to each person who sees it. It captures our attention and inspires our imagination.' One art critic said, "Sohocki abstraction is a poem in stone or bronze, opening up the senses, setting off memories and associations, and suggesting more than it states."
Sohocki created and installed numerous monuments in the U.S. and internationally. His bronze 'Endangered Grace' rises twenty feet from the lake in Benson Park in Loveland, Colorado. He is one of only five sculptors invited to Sculpture in the Park (the largest sculpture show in the U.S.) for all 38 years of its existence. His 'Torso' sculpture won the prestigious National Academy of Design Lindsey Morris Memorial Award in New York City, New York. He was selected as 5280 Magazine's Reader's Choice Top Artist. Sohocki is featured in the Sculpture of the Rockies book from the editors of Southwest Art.
Sohocki taught sculpture in the United States as well as abroad (Havana, Cuba; Cairo, Egypt). His students have included professional artists, graduate students, and inner-city children. He holds a master's degree from Cornell University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.
Some of the prestigious national shows that have exhibited/awarded his sculptures: Allied Artists of America, National Academy of Design, Kirkland Museum of Fine Art, Audubon Artists, North American Sculpture Exhibition, Instituto Superior de Arte, Kennedy and Denver Centers for Performing Arts, Cleveland Art Museum, Marmol Sol VI International Sculpture Symposium, Sculpture in the Park, Cherry Creek and Milwaukee Art Festivals and Springfield Museum of Fine Arts. Sohocki is a member of Allied Artists of America and North American Sculpture Society. His work has been shown in prestigious galleries from coast to coast." (Source: Sedona Arts Center website)
