Large antique Japanese silk scroll painting "Magpies on Pine Tree" by Imai Kōshi (今井耕師, 1891–1967), a prominent member of the Kyoto-based Shijo school, known for its delicate and naturalistic style. The painting depicts magpies on a big old pine tree, a traditional motif symbolizing longevity and good fortune. Watercolor and ink on silk. Bone roller. Paper on back. Japan, c. 1900-1920s. Good condition for age - some age wear, some foxing and staining, missing roller caps, clean. This scroll can be trimmed and framed.
