Beautiful extra large antique Japanese silk scroll painting "Sokakuzu" (Two Cranes) by Kishida Kinkoku (1851–1925), a prominent Japanese painter of … Read more Beautiful extra large antique Japanese silk scroll painting "Sokakuzu" (Two Cranes) by Kishida Kinkoku (1851–1925), a prominent Japanese painter of the Meiji era and a leading disciple of the famous female Nanga master, Okuhara Seiko. Sealed: "Kinkoku" (錦谷). Red-Crowned Cranes are a traditional Japanese symbol of longevity, happiness and loyalty, as these magnificent birds mate for life. This piece was acquired by previous owner at an antique auction in Fukuoka, Japan.
Comes in an antique wood box. Watercolor and ink on silk over paper. Beautifully mounted on silk. Bone or bone style (newer) roller ends. Paper on back. Japan, Meiji Era, circa late 19th - early 20th century. Very Good condition - some age wear overall, some staining and foxing, clean. This scroll can be trimmed and framed.
